about counselling

Counselling can help if you are experiencing painful emotions, facing difficult decisions, or feeling stuck and unable to move forward.

It can offer a way to better understand yourself, help you to maintain healthier relationships and make closer connections.

hi, I’m KIRSTY HOPE

I am a qualified counsellor with many years experience working in the helping professions. I offer a compassionate and supportive space to help you to explore your thoughts and experiences.

I deliver short and longer term options for counselling and have worked with clients on a range of difficulties including:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Sexual harm

  • Trauma

  • Relationship or family related issues

  • Loss and bereavement

  • Gender or sexuality related issues

  • Life transitions

  • Work or study related stress

  • Self-harm and suicidality

I completed my Postgraduate Diploma and Masters degree in Counselling at the University of Edinburgh. I am a registered member with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). In addition to working in private practice, I work in two Edinburgh based Universities as a student counsellor, and student support and experience manager.

  • what to expect

My approach is informed by psychodynamic and person-centred traditions. This means that I aim to establish a close and supportive therapeutic relationship with you, where you feel safe to share your experiences and thoughts without judgement.

We will explore the world as you experience it now, but will also look back at earlier relationships and experiences. We will think together to understand how your world has been shaped, and explore the parts of your past which are alive in the present.

We will work in partnership to find your way forward, helping you make the changes you would like to.

  • weekly sessions

Weekly counselling sessions can be in person at a central Edinburgh location, easily accessed by bus. Alternatively sessions can be online.

I offer options for short term counselling* (up to 10 weeks) and longer term counselling (up to 2 years).

*Please note that short term counselling may not be suitable for complex or enduring difficulties, this can be explored in your initial consultation.

Cost: £55 per 50 minute session

    (Students and concessions : £45)
